Welcome to the New Mexico Chapter website. New Mexico is a land of diverse geography; deserts, forests, ancient volcanoes, and deep caverns.
New Mexico is also a land of diverse businesses and organizations that provide employment to the state's residents. Oil and gas, ranching, farming, microchip manufacturing, education, the Department of Defense, the Department of Energy, NASA, construction, a wide variety of retail, and thousands of small businesses employ the approximately 1.8 million residents of the state.
The safety profession is growing and offers many opportunities in the Land of Enchantment.
Congratulations to Manuel (Manny) Campos Jr. as the New Mexico ASSE Chapter Safety Professional of the Year for 2008-2009.

Our SPY was instrumental in setting up the Zia Section in Las Cruces and organizing their first PDC, September 30-October 2 with a golf tournament on September 29.
Manny is currently with the City of Las Cruces as a Safety Officer. His major job duties include leading the city's efforts for creating and nurturing a safety culture by managing their endeavors for VPP recognition, and directly mentoring assigned departments (currently police, utilities, legal and public works).
The best part of his job is seeing the results of his work when employees seek more knowledge, but also knowing that any particular day that he helps someone do their job and offer guidance, safety may have been the reason for them going home to their families.
Manny has over 20 years experience in private and public positions from construction to NM OSHA. He has 10 years as an ASSE member.
He got into safety by accident. After an auto accident, he dropped out of college and was applying the technical study from college while working QC/safety for a construction contractor at White Sands (3.5 years). The rest is history.
Manny’s hobbies include motorcycles, family, safety as a whole, and ASSE. He is active in his church and also enjoys speaking to kids of all ages, whether it is for career day or other kinds of mentoring.
He is the past treasurer of the Paso Del Norte Chapter and is currently chair of the Zia Section.
Manny is married (15 years in July) with 3 children (22, 13 and 9 years of age) and he is the proud granddad of a 20 month old granddaughter.
Attendees of the New Mexico Chapter PDC "Enhancing SHE Leadership in a Challenging Economy" on May 4-5, 2009 will receive 0.6 CEU/0.5 CM point for attending day 1 and 0.7 CEU/0.5 CM point for day 2 of the event.

Albuquerque Police Department Partnerships & Alliances
The presentation will include up to date information on the crime fighting alliances being formed throughout the Abq. Police Dept. jurisdiction. These partnerships are vital to community and business safety. Learn how you and/or your company could become a member of one of these partnerships – it’s free!
Information regarding public safety issues impacting partnership areas is exchanged via secure partnership based websites. Partnership areas include: Retail, Hotel/Motel, Construction and Contracting, Commercial Property Owners and Managers and Financial institutions. Additional information to be shared at the June luncheon involves the review of the Vehicle Theft Bill passed by the NM Legislature this year; this Vehicle Theft Bill (now in effect) for the first time allows 2nd, 3rd and 4th degree felony charges to be brought against perpetrators and those found “in possession” of stolen vehicles. The definition of vehicle is broad and includes all vehicles; cars, truck fleets, even mopeds. Attend the luncheon to learn how you can protect your company’s assets!
Our second Science Fair winner will also present.

Accident Investigations
Presentation by Dean Decker, CIH
Most Industrial Hygiene and Safety Professionals have participated in accident investigations, but probably have not participated with or seen a formal accident investigation process that includes causal analysis and other investigative techniques. This presentation will lead you through the process of performing an in-depth accident investigation and the resulting reports.
Dean Decker is a Certified Industrial Hygienist and is currently employed by the Department of Energy. Dean works at the Los Alamos Site Office and is responsible oversight and working with the LANL ESH&Q Directorate and the IHS Division management to ensure that LANL’s industrial hygiene and industrial safety programs are robust and meet the requirements of the Department of Energy.
